Good News For Indies As Bankruptcy Rumors Surface For Blockbuster

By Jeff on March 4th, 2009

MSN posted an article today about Blockbuster and the rumors regarding a possible bankruptcy. The article reported that Blockbuster was looking to do a corporate restructure and not seeking bankruptcy protection. I think that is optimistic on Blockbusters part.

I believe this is a sign of things to come for Blockbuster and that the Independent video storeowner should be able to pickup customers from a Blockbuster in their town will little effort. Imagine what you could do with some concentrated effort on increasing service to your customers and the broadening the products you offer.

Making a case for a paper trail

By Jeff on February 24th, 2009

The common thought about printing receipts is to move towards a 40 column thermal printer; a printer like the Star TSP143 or the Star TS654 receipt printer (see in our catalog). The benefits are that the thermal printer is quiet, prints faster, and is the lowest cost per transaction.

However, there is another take on the thermal verses impact receipt discussion. It’s the accounting side of the equation that has surfaced again for me and has some strong arguments for considering an impact receipt printer.

One reason for an impact printer stems from the old days, where you kept a paper trail for every transaction. There were no computers and if you had one, you wanted a hardcopy – just in case. Well if you think about it, don’t you still want a hard copy - just in case?

Mobile Inventory / Price Checking

Mobile Inventory / Price Checking

Saving you time and increasing your inventory accuracy was at the foremost of our thoughts when we began developing a new feature for Phoenix for Windows called Mobile Inventory.

The goal was to give the retailer the ability to scan a merchandise item, verify the shelf pricing, and adjust the quantity on hand right on the floor. With the use of a handheld device and a wireless network, we will be able to bring to you the next level of merchandise management.

This breakthrough discards the old ways of performing a merchandise physical inventory, whether doing count sheets or using a portable data collector to gather the data and reconciling within Phoenix. Now you do the inventory right on the spot and as you check each merchandise item, that item is reconciled instantly.

What’s even better is that you don’t have to tie up long-consecutive hours scanning every item into a portable data collector. You can start and stop the process at any time, because each item is reconciled as you go.

Another benefit of this mobile inventory is the ability to do pricing checking right on the floor. Simply scan a product’s UPC and the current pricing in Phoenix is displayed on the handheld device. Then simply compare the retail price with your shelf-pricing sticker and make adjustments as necessary.

The preliminary system requirements for Mobile Inventory are:

· Phoenix Version 10.0.14 or higher
· A wireless access point to your network

The Mobile Inventory system will include the handheld device, and interface software with Phoenix for Windows.

The Mobile Inventory system will be available soon, so keep watching our blog site at:

Severe Weather Alert

Our office hours may be late starting and closing early over the next several days due to a severe ice and snow storm.

We are doing our best to bring our team into the office so that we are available to assist you with our products.

If you have a site code come up on your screen, you can click the little button next to the response box (that looks like a globe), and your system will retrieve the code automatically across the Internet. Note: you need an Internet connection for this feature.
